As Akamu Wellness in Princeville, Kauai, celebrates its one-year anniversary, we are delighted to highlight this beautiful holistic spa and its founder, Victoria McDonald. Inspired by her Hawaiian heritage and her grandmother Dora Vika Akamu, Victoria has created a sanctuary dedicated to growth, movement, and fulfillment. Akamu Wellness offers a variety of services, including organic Hawaiian facials, private day retreats, and sound healing sessions, all exclusively featuring Dr. Alkaitis products. With her extensive background in yoga and a passion for organic living, Victoria invites everyone to discover the healing power of Hawaii at Akamu Wellness.

1) What is your Mission Statement and vision?

Mission: To teach, immerse, inspire, and empower the world to become more proactive in the pursuit of sustainable and wellness and happiness.

Vision: Our Vision is to strengthen the wellness foundation and build resilience for ourselves, our families, our communities, and the planet.

2) What do you especially want your clients to experience at your location(s)?

We want our clients to immerse themselves in exquisite healing experiences that incorporate organic plants and the elements of Hawaiian culture that not only heal their bodies but allow them to receive a truly authentic and enriching experience.

3) Tell us about some events / specials you have run utilizing Dr. Alkaitis.

We currently offer our Signature Akamu Facial for men and women using Dr. Alkaitis cleanser and toner, followed by the flower mask mixed with Kauai made honey from Kilauea Jungle Oasis. Afterwards, we combine the soothing gel and treatment oil to nourish the skin during our extraordinary Thai massage.

We also offer an enhancement to our massages and facials including a Higher Dose infrared light therapy mask. Before placing the mask on our client’s face, we prepare the skin using the soothing gel and treatment oil.

On Aug. 18, Akamu will be hosting a mini-day retreat for our clients. Our lead esthetician will be teaching about lymphatic massage using Dr. ALKAITIS products and gua sha.

We will continue to host quarterly mini-retreats alongside our normally scheduled spa day retreats.

Akamu spa day retreats include a facial for individuals, couples, bridal and groom parties, and families.

4) What is your inspiration for creating a facial experience?

Our inspiration for creating a facial experience is driven by a desire to promote self-care and self-love, to enhance natural beauty using raw, living plants and organic skin care while incorporating element healing elements of nature and cultural practices into skincare practices. Ultimately our inspiration comes from a passion for helping others look and feel their best, and from a belief in the transformative power of holistic skincare experiences.

5) Tell us about yourself &/or your staff and what sets you/them apart.

Akamu means of the Earth. Victoria named her business after her Hawaiian grandmother, which also coincides with her values of living in connection with the Earth, and living a holistic lifestyle, including organic foods. Victoria loves to snorkel, ride bikes with her family alongside the ocean, hike, and share with others her healing lifestyle.

The Akamu team is committed and passionate about their own healing journey and also feel compelled to help others heal themselves. All of our Akamu Ohana team members are unparalleled in their love and loyalty to Akamu and all who find their way to our Ohana.

6) What is something you especially love about the Dr. Alkaitis Organics skincare line?

I especially LOVE that it is RAW, Living, Organic Skincare. I love how it smells and feels on my skin. My 11-year-old daughter uses it for her skincare routine too.

7) What is your favorite Dr. Alkaitis product and why?

My favorite products are the cleanser and the treatment oil. They literally make my skin glow and look and feel younger.

8) What can a client expect from a Dr. Alkaitis Facial experience?

A client can expect to feel the lightness and cleanness of the skin care products alongside the afterglow of it nourishing and nurturing their skin all throughout the day.

9) How often do you recommend coming in for a facial and do you have tips for choosing what facial is best for a client?

The frequency of getting a facial can vary depending on individual skin type, concerns, and goals. I recommend every 4-6 weeks for maintenance and optimal skin care health. I advise consulting with our esthetician to determine the ideal frequency of facials based on their unique skincare needs.

10) What is something that inspires you at the moment about the holistic wellness world?

The Rise of eco-conscious and sustainable wellness practices, including organic skincare, clean beauty products, organic clothing, organic yoga props, and environmentally friendly wellness retreats. It is also inspiring the continued innovation in technology, with the development of wellness apps, wearable devices, and virtual wellness experiences to support more people and their well-being.
