ASK THE ESTHETICIAN: WHY SHOULD SKIN BE WET BEFORE APPLYING FACE OIL?
In our "Ask the Esthetician" series, we sit down with estheticians who use our products to answer the practical skincare questions their clients ask most. This time, we caught up with Laurie Adams, holistic esthetician and owner of LANY Organics in New York City, a natural, organic facial studio in New York City known for personalized treatments and a no-nasty-chemicals philosophy.

Why should skin be wet before using facial oils?
My clients hear this question from me all the time! I say, "Think of your skin as a kitchen sponge. If you put dish soap on the sponge when it's dry, the soap just sits on the surface. Now imagine putting soap on a wet sponge, what happens? The soap penetrates the sponge."
Your skin works the same way. If you put facial oil on dry skin, it simply locks in the dryness and sits on the surface. But if you apply water to your skin before using an oil, the water will penetrate and the oil will lock in that hydration. Tip: Use a few drops of Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil after using the Dr. Alkaitis Organic Herbal Toner. Or mix both products together to create a serum before applying the Day Creme.
