Dr. Alkaitis only formulates with organic, biodynamic or wild crafted herbs, plants, seeds sea vegetables and oils. All ingredients are of an excellent quality and sourced from the world’s most pristine places. Dr. Alkaitis sources all plants and ingredients only from growers and wild crafters he personally knows and trusts. He developed these relationships over several years of professional and personal interaction. Dr. Alkaitis monitors the quality of their practices and procedures strictly.
We call this process: 'Boutique Agriculture'.
Dr. Alkaitis makes his own extracts, using sophisticated techniques that allow him to work with the whole, high quality plants; root, stem and leaf. It is important to know that the therapeutic value of a plant is found in the plant as a whole, not just in a specific part.
We hand-manufacture all of our products in small batches in our own manufacturing laboratory in California. This is a part of our commitment to quality.
Our Purifying Facial Cleanser, Herbal Toner, Soothing Gel, Nourishing Treatment Oil, Day Cream, Night Cream and our Ageless Facial Elixir contain a blend of 100% pure essential oils. Please note that our essential oils are very different to the essential oils most skin care brands use in their products.
*Each of our products contains just the right amount of essential oils needed to optimize their therapeutic effect. This optimal level is different for each essential oil in each different product. The essential oil concentration typically ranges from homeopathic levels to a fraction of a percent.
An essential oil should fully represent (reflect) the plant’s personality, it’s intelligence and life force. In order to achieve this two factors have to be fulfilled.
1. The plants themselves must be brimming with life force, therefore at optimal health, and must be harvested at the right moment and handled in an optimal fashion.
2. The extraction method must be gentle and multifaceted enough to coax the plant to donate its full personality to you for your use.
To fulfill Step 1. requires that the plants come from biodynamic or organic agriculture, or come from as near a virgin wilderness as possible. If dried then the drying process should be gentle so that plant retains its full integrity.
To fulfill Step 2. requires that the extraction method used preserves the plant’s full personality. The 3 major extraction methods used for the production of essential oils and their relative capability of capturing the plant’s personality are given below:
1. Steam distillation: captures the least of the plant’s personality.
2. Supercritical CO2 extraction: Better than steam distillation but still not quite sufficient as the method is rather inflexible.
3. Hydrodistillation: is the best method for capturing the full personality as the technique itself is exquisitely adaptable, both in equipment (usually custom made) and flexibility in parameters.
Keep in mind that hydrodistillation is merely a tool, like a brush is a tool to an artist. The palate for hydrodistillation consists of the plants. The completed painting is the essential oil. It takes a true artist to achieve an exquisite painting as each different plant requires its own unique set of parameters in hydrodistillation. It is the artist’s ability to interact with the soul of the plant that allows him/her to determines the optimal parameters to use in order for the essential oil to fully reflect the plant’s personality.
*Wherever possible we work with the properly hydrodistilled, pure essential oils. Dr. Alkaits vets each individual distiller.
*Where possible the essential oil is sourced from farmers that are only producing one oil from a single, same soil harvest. This keeps the oils exceptionally pure. Dr. Alkaitis vets each farmer.
*Our essential oils are ‘living’. This contributes to their softness and pureness. This property is also the reason that most people have no reaction to them; the living oils actually adjust to an individual’s skin in order to help ameliorate an existing condition as apposed to exasperating it.
Apart from the sourcing of the raw plant materials, please note that the majority of essential oils that are used in today’s market are produced using steam distillation, whether on the micro or macro scale, and therefore have built in limitations to their therapeutic properties.
